Saturday Ongoing Meditation Classes: Meditation as a Practice to Skillfully be in Relationship to What’s Happening Now
Perhaps, just like me, you find yourself at times not experiencing life in the manner which you would prefer. Perhaps you have considered meditation as a possible means “out of” this dissatisfaction. But what if a more fruitful consideration of meditation may not be as a “way out of” that part of our experience we don’t prefer but instead a “way in and through”?
Perhaps practicing meditation as a means to not ignore or distract ourselves but to truly wake up and clearly see what is happening, as well as, to cultivate skilful ways of relating to what is happening, we would be able to catch a glimpse of the liberating path that meditation is. Liberating in the sense that we could come to realize and directly experience that our natural inner state of peace, joy and equipoise may be unconditionally connected with, on a moment to moment basis, even amidst the ongoing fluctuations of not getting what it is that we think we want and getting what it is with think we don’t want.
Being able to clearly see the true roots of happiness and suffering is just a part of being able to be of benefit to ourselves and others in experiencing greater happiness and less suffering. Cultivating skilful “ways of being” in response to what it is we clearly see is another vital aspect of contributing to greater happiness and reducing suffering for all living things, including our selves.
Over the next 5-6 months we will gather to meditate together, as well as, to self reflect and dialogue regarding skillful ways of being in response to “what is happening” that may be of benefit as a means to not only directly experience happiness and less suffering but to also be of greater benefit to others so that they too, may experience the same.
Over the 24 or so weeks together, we will start each class with an opportunity to deepen our sitting practice. Following our sitting practice we will mindfully read a number of quotes from many very wise teachers regarding one skilful way of being that we are invited to become more familiar with & cultivate during both our formal sitting meditation practice & our “informal” practice of life. Topics such as non attachment, gentleness, letting go, non judgment, patience, compassion, acceptance, gratitude, beginner’s mind, loving kindness and many more will be the context for our discussion week by week.
Although this class began September 14th, feel free to join us whatever weeks you are available. Each class, although interrelated to the others, would still be understandable & beneficial without attending all of the others. Also as a means of keeping all those interested in this series informed of class content they may miss, much of the information presented will be available on this website under the Resources & Philosophy link in the banner above. Also available at that location is the means to post comments about that topic or class and keep our discussions going in between gatherings. If you please enroll for the classes you will be attending by double clicking on the specific class within our event calendar that may be accessed by hovering over the “Main” listing on the banner above. Hope to see you on Saturday!
